Lodging with a Host Family (Spring session only)

Learn French the ideal way while staying a full session with a local French-speaking family.

Host families are carefully selected and all reside in Rivière-du-Loup.

NOTE: All students will stay at a hotel from their arrival on Sunday through Tuesday. These two days are set aside for orientation, placement test, program presentation and special activities.  There is no extra charge for these first days.  

As of Tuesday evening, students will be staying with their host family.

 

Lodging at the residence (Summer session only)

LODGING

The College Residence offers single and double rooms equipped with a bedroom sink, a desk and a storage space.

Clean bedding is provided once a week. Students may bring their sheets to the front desk and clean ones will be given to them. Students must, however bring their own towels and a warm blanket.

There are showers and washrooms on each floor.

A key deposit of CAD$50 must be paid on the day of arrival and will be refunded on the day of departure if the following conditions have been met:

  • room key has been returned;
  • no damage has been done to the property or goods of the College and its subcontractors.

Any damage caused to the room or equipment will be at the student’s expense.

SERVICES OFFERED AT THE RESIDENCE

Cafeteria

Meals are served at the cafeteria from Monday to Friday. During the weekends students are proposed different options depending on activities: breakfast at the “Carrefour” (Students’ Café), caterers’ meals or picnic on excursions sites. An allowance can also be given to students for some meals over the weekend.

We have well equipped kitchens on each floor of the Residence the students may use.  We provide pans, pots and dishes for students who want to cook. There are two big grocery stores and a few fine food boutiques within one kilometre.

In order for L’École de français to provide the best possible food service, students must specify food allergies or special diets on their Personal Information Form.

Telephone

There is a telephone in each room. Local calls are free. For long distance calls students can call collect or use a cell phone.

To receive a call: we suggest students call their parents to let them know when the best time to call is.

Laundry facilities

Washing machines and dryers are located on the first floor of the Residence. Students are responsible for the washing of their own clothes and towels. The fee for using the washers or dryers is CAD$1.00 per use.

Internet

Internet is available for fee in every room.  Students will need a network cable which is available at the front desk with a CAD$5.00 deposit.

Internet is also available for free in very computer room in the Cégep and WiFi is also another option in some places.

Other services

Reception desk with security officer 24/7, living room with giant screen TV and comfortable couches, DVD player, vending machines, book store, Desjardins ATM.

CIGARETTES, ALCOHOL, DRUGS, THEFT, NOISE

Cigarettes

Tobacco and cigarette consumption is forbidden in the Residence and inside the Cégep. A provincial law forbids the sale of tobacco to anyone under the age of 18.

Alcohol

Alcohol consumption is strictly forbidden anywhere on Campus and in the municipal parks under penalty of expulsion.  A provincial law forbids the sale of alcohol to anyone under the age of 18. It also forbids anyone under the age of 18 from going to a bar.

A person under legal age who is found in a bar when police make their rounds can be sent to jail and will be expelled from the program at her/his parents’ expense.

Drugs

Possession, consumption or resale of drugs is illegal not only under provincial law but also by federal law. Anyone caught disobeying these laws could end up in jail and will be immediately expelled from the program at her/his parents’ expense.

Theft

Steeling and shoplifting are also sufficient causes for expulsion from the program and are liable of prosecution.

Noise

Disturbing noise is forbidden at all times.

SECURITY AND CURFEW

There are two monitors living on each floor of the Residence. Their rooms are located close to the students’ rooms.

Due to safety measures, the main entrance is the only door that may be used to get in and out of the Residence after the curfew.  A security officer is on duty at the front desk 24/7.

Curfew

The rules regarding evening curfew must be fully respected. Disobeying the curfew results in expulsion from the program.
